Lexington, KY, June 23, 2009---As the Bluegrass region prepares to entertain the 600,000 plus visitors estimated to flock to the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, LexArts is leading the charge with an encore appearance one of its greatest hits -- Horse Mania.

PRESS CONFERENCE:  There will be a press conference to announce Horse Mania 2010 on Monday, June 29, 2009 at 5:00 pm at Dudley’s Restaurant, 380 South Mill Street. Jim Clark, President and CEO of LexArts, and Mayor Jim Newberry will be in attendance.

A public art project, Horse Mania involves a citywide display of fiberglass horses extravagantly decorated by local artists.   The original Horse Mania took the city by storm on its 2000 debut, so capturing the hearts and imaginations of Lexingtonians and visitors alike that it was voted “Best Outdoor Art in Lexington” by ACE Weekly in 2008 – a full nine years after the event!

“People have been chomping at the bit for the horses to return”, said LexArts President and CEO, Jim Clark.  “They were so hugely popular it just makes sense to bring them back as an auxiliary attraction for the 2010 Games.”

Recognizing the immense opportunity presented by Horse Mania 2010, astute local businesses are responding enthusiastically to LexArts call for sponsors: $5,000 for the 79 local horses and $7,500 for four Sister Cities horses.  Three underwriters are in the saddle, and several horses have already been sold. However many sponsorships are still available and warmly accepted. To sponsor a horse call 859.255.2951 or visit www.LexArts.com for more information.

In a tip of the hat to the international flavor of the Games, Horse Mania 2010 will include a horse from each of Lexington’s four Sister Cities – Deauville, France; County Kildare, Ireland; Shinhidaka, Japan; and Newmarket, England.   The Sister Cities horses will be decorated by artists from each of these countries and then flown back to Lexington, via horse transport, to be put on display with the rest of the horses.

A call to artists will go out in early 2010 and artists will be selected in the spring.  The horses will hit the streets July 1 and be on display for several months through the Games.  They will be auctioned at Keeneland in December of 2010 and the funds generated are earmarked for local charities and Lexington’s developing public art program.
