Legends rally falls short; Three players, pitching coach Taylor named to All-Star team

(APPLEBEE'S PARK, Lexington, Ky.) A ninth-inning rally by the Lexington Legends fell short as they lost 4-2 to the Asheville Tourists Monday night.

The Legends trailed 4-0 going into the ninth, but a double by Ebert Rosario and a home run by Brandon Barnes, his fifth of the year, cut the lead to two. One out later, Kyle Miller singled. Jorge DeLeon was hit by a pitch, and Michael Diaz followed with a pop fly single to center to load the bases. Asheville changed pitchers at that point, and Adam Jorgensen retired the next two hitters, Eric Suttle and Federico Hernandez, on fly balls to center field to end the game.

Asheville scored first on Kiel Roling's solo homer in the second. They added a run in the third on a ground-rule double by Carlos Martinez and a one-out single by Delta Cleary. In the seventh inning, Tyler Massey homered with Roling aboard to make the score 4-0.

Asheville starter Parker Frazier pitched seven shutout innings, giving up five hits while striking out eight and walking two. He earned his second win against five losses. Legends starter Robert Bono (5-3) was the losing pitcher.

Earlier in the day, Bono, pitcher Ross Seaton and third baseman Ebert Rosario were named to the South Atlantic League Southern Division All-Star team. Legends' pitching coach Charley Taylor was named a coach for the Southern Division team. Taylor has been battling cancer and has been unable to work with the Legends this season.

The SAL All-Star game will be played in Charleston, West Virginia June 23.
