These new works are the result of a grant sponsored trip to Olympic National Park. In the most recent works he experiments with format, minimal realism, and hand-built frames that incorporate objects inside niches. The objects in the niches relate to the paintings on a conceptual or formal level, forcing the viewer to ponder the relationship between the space depicted and the object.
Kevin Muente is Associate Professor of Painting at Northern Kentucky University. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States including the Knoxville Museum of Art, the Albrecht Kemper Museum, the Cincinnati Art Museum and most recently in a solo exhibition at the Cross McLeaf Gallery in Philadelphia.
