Bluegrass Fashion House/S. Benedit
What have been your most difficult challenges as a designer?:
Is all circumstantial you know, as you go in life, you get across with so many different “challenges” I always see this as an opportunity to learn and grow. At this moment would be how to raise three children, keep your family together at the same time as working on such a time- intensive business.
What are your dreams and aspirations?:
I have so many, one that I’m very focused on right now is helping make the fashion one of the revenue generators for our local economy and creating job opportunities for individuals with interest in developing a career in fashion.
I have met so many incredibly talented people in the past couple of years, I’m very excited for what has to come from the integration of the Lexington Fashion Collaborative, a non-profit of which I’m a co-founder.
What are the colors and trends of this season?:
This time of the year there are always the classics fall/ holiday colors like Camel, red, gold, and this year olive green and light blue are coming very strong.
What’s something people don’t know about fashion designers?: Went it comes to personal style, we are not necessarily the trendiest people you’ll ever meet. I mean, with all the work we do to make other people look good, we don’t have time to ourselves.
Just look at Karl Lagerfeld and Carolina Herrera, they always wear the black and white combo, it works great and never goes out of style. A great way of saving time!!
Biggest Fashion DON’T?:
Colorful printed underwear + see true clothing combination - no, no.
Does Lexington have something other cities don’t offer?:
It has really talented people that have not been influenced (yet) by this negative, diva like attitude that dominates the fashion world. [Lexington] is pure raw, almost organic talent.
Who’s your fashion icon?:
I love Eva Mendez style.
