Fan Outfitters Takes its First Steps to Become a National Brand
Lexington, KY — July 13, 2012 — Fan Outfitters is opening a fifth retail location in Palomar Center in Lexington, KY in August. Two stores will open in Norman and Moore, Oklahoma in the fall. The great growth and expansion will give the company seven total retail locations, a 54 foot traveling mobile retail store, and websites for each market and school. The stores range in size from 6,000 to 10,000 square feet of University of Kentucky and University of Louisville collegiate merchandise, novelty items and more. Adding new stores means adding new jobs. Fan Outfitters will create over 75 new jobs with the addition of new stores. Woodford Webb, of The Webb Companies says, “We are extremely excited to have Lexington’s most widely known collegiate sports apparel company as a tenant in Palomar Centre. This addition is a “game changer” for the overall center and we are confident that this addition will be a huge draw for all of our tenants and will be a great fit with the neighborhood.” Fan Outfitters in Lexington and Louisville has exceeded expectations and felt that the south side of town was under served.
Founders, Stephen Dawahare and Joe Kawaja describe Fan Outfitters as a store that completely outfits the true fan. It is a one stop shop with everything from small car decals and hats to tailgate tents embellished with school logos. The look and feel of the stores will remain the same. Music, televisions, and pure excitement will make shoppers feel like they are at a sporting event rather than an apparel store. The stores will continue to feature brand new lines of NIKE and ADIDAS. The authentic high end fashions set this company apart from all other sports apparel stores.
The Oklahoma stores will feature OU and NBA Oklahoma Thunder apparel. Fan Outfitters has always had high expectations for success and growth. Joe Kawaja says, “After a great deal of research into other schools, Oklahoma was the best fit. The strength of a top 10 football program and the opportunity to move into the Pro Sports Apparel was a seamless match.”
With such a huge interest in collegiate and pro merchandise, the company's first store filled a major void in an industry that is generally fragmented without a national player. “We are fans who know what fans want, to provide that to others is an amazing opportunity,” noted Dawahare. The company has gained insight into a number of other collegiate markets and plans for expansion continue. The company’s first location opened in Lexington, KY in September 2009.
