Kentucky (August 11th, 2013) Rachel Clark, age 13, a beginner handler in 4-H, won Showmanship at the 2013 Kentucky State Fair Dog Show in Broadbent Arena. Rachel is a member of the Fayette County 4-H Dog Club and was showing her beloved basset hound Max. Max is a rescue who came to live with the family as a foster placement but soon became a permanent member family. Rachel and Max won her age division in the Beginner Class and then won Best in Beginner Class. Rachel won the title of Best Handler in the final competition which included the Best of the Beginner Class team, Best of the No AKC Experience Class team, and the Best of the Experienced Class team. Max came to the family with several issues common to rescues. 4-H Dog Club has been an excellent place for Rachel and Max to work on basic obedience and showmanship skills. Rachel has only been showing Max for a little over a year in local county shows. This was their first time competing at the State Fair.
