Tickets are just $10 Newtown has been on a roll, playing all over the U.S. from Maine to Florida, receiving a standing ovation at The Festival of The Bluegrass in June. Shortly after, they started working on their second CD. One of the few bands in the Bluegrass/Americana genre who have taken the leap of recording and performing original material. Newtown has composed their own arrangements and styling’s enhancing the way we enjoy the type of music they perform. KATI PENN-WILLIAMS Fiddle/Vocals Kati Penn-Williams has had a long career in music! She began to learn to play the fiddle at the age of four. She joined the Young Acoustic All-Stars, at age 12, touring with band members such as, Chris Thile of Nickel Creek and Josh Turner of the Josh Turner Band. Kati soon started a bluegrass band of her own, The Kati Penn Band. Kati is a much sought after studio musician, she has recorded such music greats as, JP Pennington of Exile, John Cowan of Newgrass Revival and The John Cowan Band, The New Coon Creek Girls, Jim Hurst 3 time IBMA award winning Guitarist of the Year, Steve Gulley and Dale Anne Bradley, adding her own original arrangements and vocal harmonies. Kati has an unforgettable flute clear voice and has performed with hundreds of artists including John Michael Montgomery and Tony Rice. She has performed AND been interviewed on The Crook and Chase Show. The Newtown Band has performed at Fan Fest in Nashville, where they opened for Montgomery Gentry, Miranda Lambert, John Michael Montgomery and the John Cowan Band. They have also played at Opry Land, The Grand Ole Opry and they were showcased at IBMA's 2012 Fan Fest. JR. “Carl” WILLIAMS Banjo/Guitar/Vocals JR. hails from Drip Rock, KY. And is the son of a preacher man! JR. learned to sing and play guitar at age 5. He was a member of the award winning bluegrass gospel group The BISHOP’S. He spent 10 years with The BISHOP’S playing banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin and adding his vocal skills in lead and harmonies. JR. then joined ROUNDER RECORDS recording artists band, New Found Road. After many years with New Found Road, he met Kati Penn and joined her band! JR. and Kati were a musical and romantic match. They tied the knot several years ago and formed The Newtown Band, after adding the current members. JR. is looking forward to many more years with The Newtown Band and his lovely wife Kati. CLINT HURD Mandolin/Vocals Hailing from Edson, TN. Clint started playing as a child when his grandfather Charles Byrd presented him with his first mandolin. Due to Clint's Family's Bluegrass music history they were very supportive. Clint became proficient on many instruments and was influenced by such greats as, Dwight Hurd, Bill Monroe, Tony Rice, Alan Bibey, Steve Gulley and The Bluegrass Partners. He has performed with numerous bands including The Bluegrass Partners, Rough Edges Band, The Cumberland gap Connection, Dale Anne Bradley and Steve Gulley. Clint is passionate about both music and his other profession as a home health care provider. Besides his instrumental arrangements, he delivers smooth vocal harmony and lead. TERRY POIRIER Bass/Vocals Originally from New Brunswick, Canada, Terry and his wife now make their home in KY. Terry is the youngest son of legendary Bluegrass music pioneer Eddy Poirier. Starting at age 5 Terry has been playing many instruments and sang in The Poirier Family band leading up to his love for the Upright Bass.Terry appeared on the Canadian ATV Television series “Up Home Tonight”. Terry is in high demand as a studio musician and has been featured on recordings by Eddy Poirier, Ray Legere, Ivan Hicks, Bernie LaBlanc and Many Others! Terry is also an established sound and studio technician and is in great demand at numerous bluegrass festivals. Terry has played with such greats as Mark O’Conner, Mcoury Band, Ronnie Bowman, Bob Paisley and The Southern Grass and Rhonda Vincent. Terry's talents extend from bluegrass to jazz, as well as DJ work, Webmaster at World Wide Bluegrass Internet Radio Station and Music Librarian. C.J. CAINE Vocals/Guitar/Lyricist/Composer CJ, being a former member of the Kati Penn Band, is now a senior member of The Newtown Band. CJ was influenced by blues greats such as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, to name a few. CJ started playing guitar with a Les Paul electric. He then moved to an acoustic guitar and began studying the styles of Tony Rice, Chris Eldridge, Tim Stafford and Clarence White. CJ wrote a song depicting a story of his grandfathers WWII experience’s, which debuts on the new album. While playing and touring CJ was able to complete a degree from UK in finance. He enjoys vintage Martin guitars, musical conversations and a well told story.
