In salute of Breast Cancer Awareness Month TOPS is proud to share the stories of 23 survivors.
Meet Denise Frazier.
Denise’s cancer was detected in 2006 through her yearly mammogram. Her initial feelings were devastation and fear—fear of the unknown, fear of not knowing how she would react to chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and fear that she may not make it through surgery. But then she fell to her knees and prayed. She says, “I asked the Lord to have mercy on me.”
Denise found her greatest support system in her family, church, friends and co-workers. She also turned toward her faith in the Lord. “Having cancer caused me to look up to Him, lean and trust in Him,” she explains. When asked to share advice for others battling cancer, she directs them to Proverbs 3: 5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not on thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.” Denise explains that she felt His strength when she was weak and hope when she was distressed.
Throughout her cancer journey, Denise feels that her faith has grown stronger. She says, “I don’t take life for granted.” She is living life and enjoying her six grandchildren, with another on the way in December. “I try to enjoy each and every day of my life and thank the Lord for sparing it.”
