Recycle the Runway, a unique fashion show, silent auction and luncheon where local designers unveil runway-ready fashions made out of “unsuitable” garments, returns to the Grand Reserve on Oct. 6.
The event, which benefits the nonprofit Dress for Success Lexington, is an opportunity for professional and amateur designers to showcase their skills, and for the community to participate in an impactful afternoon.
“Recycle the Runway has become Dress for Success Lexington’s signature fundraising event that attendees and designers look forward to each year. We are thrilled to host the event for a third year to raise funds that will directly impact the women we serve,” said Analisa Wagoner, co-founder and executive director of Dress for Success Lexington.
Recycle the Runway kicks off at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Reserve with a luncheon, silent auction and “grab bag” opportunities. Then as many as 12 local designers and their models will take center stage with their wearable art – and compete for top honors. The winning designer will receive a cash prize and a two-hour photo shoot from Christopher Michael Images.
“Prior to the show, the designers purchase a bag of unsuitable garments and work their magic during an 8-week period,” said Amy Wickliffe, chair of Dress for Success Lexington. “At Dress for Success Lexington we change women’s lives every day. Watching the designers bring new life to otherwise unused clothing is not only fun and entertaining, but more importantly it symbolizes to us that everyone has a purpose and can be successful if given the opportunity.”
Dress for Success Lexington is searching for 12 talented designers to compete for cash prizes and more. Bags of clothing will be available for pick-up Aug. 11-14 at the Dress for Success Lexington boutique in Eastland Shopping Center. To sign up, email [email protected] (limited to the first 12 designers).
Tickets for the event, which go on sale Aug. 17, are $75 ($50 if purchased before Sept. 15) and can be purchased online here. Sponsorships are also available. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to Dress for Success Lexington to support its mission to empower women to be financially independent.
Dress for Success Lexington has served over 270 women since opening their doors in October 2013. In addition to providing clothing, Dress for Success Lexington addresses every phase of a woman’s career – providing support and resources through the job search, at the time of employment, and continuing with services and support to ensure that women keep their jobs and have the tools and encouragement to pursue success.
