Hoops' Rally Falls Short at Alabama

Jasmine Robinson scored 17 points and Alabama held off a big rally for a 77-75 victory over No. 7 Kentucky on Thursday night, the Crimson Tide's first win against a ranked team in more than nine years. The Tide (12-15, 2-11 Southeastern Conference) had most of a 23-point lead wiped out in the second half before handing the league-leading Wildcats (21-5, 10-3) their third straight defeat. Alabama hadn't beaten a ranked team since a 70-59 win over No. 24 BYU on Dec. 21, 2002. A'dia Mathies kept this one in question with 26 points for Kentucky, including a 3-pointer with 1 second left. Hoops Falls at Tennessee

Meighan Simmons scored a season-high 25 points and No. 13 Tennessee defeated No. 7 Kentucky 91-54 on Monday night. Shekinna Stricklen added 18 points for the Lady Volunteers, who shot 59 percent while holding Kentucky to 33.3 percent. Tennessee (18-7, 9-3 Southeastern Conference) never trailed. Simmons hit consecutive 3-pointers to make it 10-2. The Wildcats (21-4, 10-2) pulled within 21-16 on a steal by Azia Bishop and a layup by Bernisha Pinkett with 9:20 in the first half, but they wouldn't get any closer. The loss marked the first time this season Kentucky has dropped consecutive games. Read more »

No. 7/7 Kentucky women's basketball has been making history all season, and hopes to continue re-writing the record books Monday. The Wildcats are looking for their first-ever win in Thompson-Boling Arena, and first win in Knoxville since 1985 when they meet No. 11/11 Tennessee at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and is the first women's collegiate basketball game in 3D as part of ESPN's Big Monday Presented by Bud Light and Play 4Kay telecast. Read more »






Thompson Named McDonald's All-American

Kentucky women's basketball signee Janee Thompson, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Whitney Young High School in Chicago has been selected to play in the prestigious 2012 McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Game on March 28, 2012 in the United Center in Chicago. The game, which features the top 24 high school players around the country representing teams from the East and West, will be aired on ESPNU at 7 p.m. ET. Thompson will play for the East. The accolades continue to come in for University of Kentucky women's basketball junior guard A'dia Mathies. One day after being named to the 2011-12 State Farm Wade Watch list, Mathies has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association Midseason Watch list, as announced by the association Thursday.
