Kristen & Wes

Kristin and Wes met while attending the University of Kentucky. They bumped into each other and quickly became friends. Their friendship progressed into dating before too long. When Wes decided to propose, it was just as simple and natural as the rest of their relationship. The couple was sitting in her house, watching TV, on a Sunday night following a day of going to the park, eating at The Chophouse and going to church. Wes just got down on one knee, and the rest is history.

For their June wedding, Kristin and Wes chose to be married at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Leitchfield, the bride’s hometown parish. The aisle was lined with twelve white stands boasting vases filled with rose petals and candles. The runner was light pink and covered with rose petals and vases of orchids were placed about the church.

Kristin wore a strapless beaded gown by Envogue with a dropped waist, corset back and small train. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and white peonies, which was wrapped with her grandmother’s napkin and brooch. The six bridesmaids wore watermelon-hued strapless dresses which were ruched at the midsection and paired with vibrant floral-printed peep-toe shoes, which were a hit with guests. The groom and groomsmen wore classic black suits with pink rose boutonnieres..

The reception was held at the home of the bride’s grandparents. This location was chosen not only for its beauty, but in order to include her late grandfather, who was bedridden at the time, in the festivities. He was able to watch the whole reception from his wheelchair, a cherished memory for the bride.

Shades of pink were the focus of the reception decor. Long tables were pushed together in a U shape, which encouraged guests to mix and mingle. Tall vases filled with cherry blossoms sat on each table, separated with smaller vases of orchids, roses and peonies. Each table had a monogrammed napkin and napkin overlay with a beaded napkin ring topped with a cherry blossom. The bride and groom rode into the reception in a horse and carriage as guests blew bubbles.

A cocktail hour featured a fruit, cheese and wine bar as well as a chocolate fountain with marshmallows, pretzels and strawberries for dipping. The dinner included a salad bar, baked potato bar, corn, green beans, yeast rolls, prime rib, ribeye steaks and chicken and rice. Much of the food was grown on the family farm.

The wedding cake was square and featured four tiers, each a different flavor and each with a different design in the buttercream icing. The chocolate, strawberry and vanilla tiers featured polka dots, a quilted design, swirls or flowers. Between each tier, pink roses added a beautiful pop of color.

With a local DJ spinning classic and oldie hits and the bridal party cracking out the John Wall dance, the day was truly special, fun and heartfelt for Kristin and Wes.
