Lauren & Cameron

Lauren & Cameron first met at Keeneland, while she was on a college visit. They exchanged names during a college function between his fraternity and her sorority. The pair shared their first date the following morning: they went to church and had breakfast at Magee’s Bakery. Since then, Cameron has graduated from UK and works at Silrec Corp. and Lauren is a law student at UK. They live in Lexington.

Cameron planned two proposals for Lauren, both of which she inadvertently ruined by canceling the dates he’d arranged. The proposal finally came when Cameron bought a house in Lexington after graduating from UK. The night before he officially moved in was their anniversary. With the expense of moving, they had agreed to exchange cards and share a dinner at Jean Farris winery. Cameron suggested that they exchange cards at the new house. The bottom of Lauren’s card read, “P.S. Will you marry me?” Cameron had taken out the ring and was awaiting Lauren’s answer by the time she was finished reading. The ring itself was drawn and designed by Cameron at Sheila Bayes Jewelry.

The ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Assumption in downtown Louisville on Friday, June 5th. The bride wore a Romona Keveza dress with a custom made bubble veil and blusher by Toni Frederici through Bluegrass Bride. She also wore Nina “Blin” pumps in gold. Her bouquet featured ivory and yellow blooms and was wrapped in her baptismal bonnet, made by her late great-aunt, and the family rosary. Cameron’s tuxedo was by JCrew. The bridesmaids wore black silk dresses by Melissa Sweet, a Kentucky native. Each bridesmaid carried a small bouquet of sunny yellow flowers, created by Sara Wilhem with Country Squire Florist.

The reception was held at the Louisville Palace Theatre, just a block and a half away from the ceremony site. Built in 1928, the Palace features ornate detailing that required little for the bride and groom to turn the venue into their dream reception hall. Tinker’s Cake Shop designed the cake around a vintage 1920’s cake topper that the bride and groom purchased, which echoed The Palace’s grand style. A candy buffet featured white, yellow and black candies for guests to create their own take-home bags.

Since most of Lauren and Cameron’s guests were from out-of-state, the bride and groom gave them a taste of Kentucky with hotel baskets fashioned out of KFC buckets, filled with Ale-8’s, Kitizo cookies, horseshoes from Keeneland, Kenny’s Cajun Popcorn and Maker’s Mark coffee. At the reception, a bourbon tasting bar was set up on two barrels from Woodford Reserve. The bugler from Churchill Downs played the call to post and “My Old Kentucky Home”. The menu featured mini hot browns, mini shot glasses of burgoo, fried green tomato Caprese, chicken with bourbon barbecue sauce and a crostini station with various local cheeses, all set up in stations to allow guests to mingle as they sampled the great Kentucky tastes.

The festive evening featured music by the band 24/7 out of Nashville and a waltz-style first dance to “Moondance” by Van Morrison, choreographed during private lessons at Kentucky DanceSport. The wedding invitations were also very close to the couple’s hearts—the monogram was designed by Lauren’s aunt, Dayna Bischof of TheCalligraphyLady.com. Details of the event planning were handled by Sher Haley with Sher Haley Events.

The next morning, the couple and their families went to Churchill Downs’ Turf Club and watched the live racing and Belmont simulcast. They enjoyed a professional tour of the track and paddocks before Lauren and Cameron left for their honeymoon in picturesque Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
