While Agile (as well as other change driven) methodologies have been in widespread use for more than 15 years, many Business Analysts still have not had an opportunity to practice them; or they have worked on a team that was supposedly Agile, but used the approach haphazardly or incorrectly, picking and choosing pieces they liked without truly evolving the way that they work. This is unfortunately common these days.
What sort of skills does a Business Analyst new to Agile need to know in order to successfully participate in a project? What skills and techniques from their experiences with Waterfall projects can they utilize or draw from; and equally important, which ones should they abandon? What new skills and techniques should they develop? And if they’re working on a team that thinks it’s following Agile best practices but really isn’t, how can they help the team adjust and improve?
