In this course, participants will be drawing the portrait from life. This will be a foundation course in portrait drawing, and will include drawing studies related to contour, gesture, anatomy and proportion, modeling the effects of light, and choosing scale and developing compositions. All skill levels are welcome. Watch your portrait come to life!  For the first class, please bring the following materials: Two, soft, “peel and sketch” charcoal pencils; one jumbo sized, soft, vine charcoal; one “pink pearl” or other hard eraser and a large format sketchpad 18’ x 24’ or larger. A small modeling fee will be collected during modeling sessions. At the Fine Arts Institute, we open the doors of UK'S School of Art and Visual Studies to our local artistic community as a place to learn new or expand on existing creative skills. We offer adults 18 years and over a variety of non-credit community education courses and workshops. Our goal is to provide community learning opportunities that utilize the university’s state-of-the-art facilities. From woodworking, metalworking, ceramics, textiles, digital art, floral design, black and white photography and more, the FAI wants you to push your creative boundaries in our creative setting. If you have any questions, please contact the Fine Arts Institute Coordinator, Carey Gough at [email protected] or (859)218-5984.
