Legends Dim Fireflies in 3-0 Victory

The Lexington Legends and Columbia Fireflies met for the first game of the series, and the Legends took game one in shutout fashion with a 3-0 victory. The game ended in the bottom of the eighth inning due to inclement weather. Lexington improves to 34-29 and Columbia drops to 31-30.

The Lexington plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Seuly Matias drew the leadoff walk then advanced to third on a single by Marten Gasparini. Matias then scored on a wild pitch by Briam Campusano and the Legends led 1-0. 

Lexington struck again in the bottom of the third. Cristian Perez singled then stole second base. Perez moved up to third on one wild pitch then scored on another by Campusano, extending Lexington’s lead to 2-0.

The Legends scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Dennicher Carrasco smacked a solo homer to left field, putting Lexington up 3-0.

Holden Capps pitched 4.0 shutout innings allowing two hits while walking two and striking out four. Jacob Condra-Bogan pitched in relief, throwing 3.0 innings allowing two hits with three strikeouts. Andrew Beckwith pitched the final inning, not allowing a hit. 

The Lexington Legends and Columbia Fireflies meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Legends will send RHP Janser Lara (1-3, 3.57 ERA) to face RHP Tony Dibrell (2-2, 3.79 ERA). The Legends will add another Legendary bobblehead when they giveaway University of Kentucky Football Head Coach, Mark Stoops bobbleheads to the first 1,000 fans that enter the gates of Whitaker Bank Ballpark.  The seven-inch tall bobblehead will reflect Coach Stoops standing on the sidelines of Kroger Field with his hands on his hips, donning a white UK short-sleeve quarter zip with khakis, along with a white UK hat. He will also have on the classic football radio headset and sunglasses. It will also be Legen-Dairy Night courtesy of Dairy Farmers of Kentucky. Fans can try their hand at milking a replica cow while the Kentucky Dairy Farmers giveaway free samples on the plaza. Then watch Miss Kentucky throw out the first pitch! Fans can treat themselves to $0.25 hot dogs all night long!
