NICHOLASVILLE, KY (June 23, 2021) - The Barbasol Championship, Keene Trace, and Golf House Kentucky will host the inaugural Barbasol Junior Championship June 28 – July 1 at Keene Run Golf Course in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The Barbasol Junior Championship was created to provide the highest level of competition for top junior players and will be streamed live on Junior Golf Live. The 54-hole stroke play event will be contested over three days at the Keene Run Course at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky and is open to amateur boys under the age of 19 who have not entered their first year of college.

The Barbasol Junior Champion will receive coveted exemption to the 2021 PGA TOUR Barbasol Championship, which will be played July 15-18. The Barbasol Junior Championship is the only junior golf tournament in the country to offer an exemption to a PGA TOUR event.

“We’re excited to continue growing the Barbasol Championship brand and its impact on our community with the addition of this event,” said Bryan Pettigrew, Barbasol Championship Tournament Director. “Fans are in for a treat, with some of the very best junior golfers from around the world competing in what we believe will quickly become the nation’s premier junior tournament.”

“Youth golf in Kentucky is one of the fastest growing activities and we are honored to showcase our course to these national and international athletes,” said Tyler VanHoose, General Manager of Keene Trace Golf Club. “We have worked tirelessly with the Barbasol Championship and Golf House Kentucky to create a world-class junior golf tournament and introduce young boys and girls to these elite athletes.”

Format: All players will play 18-holes of stroke play on Tuesday, June 29th, Wednesday, June 30th and Thursday, July 1st. There will not be a cut. Starting times will begin at 8:00am all three days. There will be an awards ceremony and trophy presentation following the conclusion of play on Wednesday at approximately 5:30pm.

In addition to the golf tournament, a “free” Youth Golf Clinic will be co-produced by First Tee – Greater Lexington, the Gilbert-Bunnell Foundation, Do Something Extraordinary Golf and Golf House Kentucky to

introduce children and their families to the sport of golf. Games, bounce houses, food specials and clinics for beginners up to advance golfers will be conducted by PGA golf instructors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. College golf teams will be on hand to introduce families and youngsters to the game of golf, explaining “golf etiquette”, and giving tours of the golf course and explain the competition.

Golf House Kentucky, a non-profit organization comprised of the Kentucky Golf Association, Kentucky PGA Section and Kentucky Golf Foundation, also played an integral role in making the event a reality.

“We are dedicated to promoting the game of golf throughout Kentucky,” said Jeff Adkerson, Executive Director of Golf House Kentucky. “The Barbasol Junior Championship will not only shine a spotlight on golf in our state but bring in junior competitors from around the world. It will provide a unique opportunity for local junior golfers to earn their way into the field and compete for a spot in a PGA TOUR event in their home state.”

The Barbasol Junior Championship field will include over 120 players, currently residing in 25 different states and five (5) countries including, in addition to the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, and the Philippines.
