LEXINGTON CLINIC ESTABLISHES DIETITIAN SERVICES

LEXINGTON, Ky. – June 15, 2016 – Lexington Clinic is pleased to announce the establishment of Dietitian Services, which includes medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management education.
Bethany Borders, a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and a Licensed Dietitian with the Kentucky Board of Licensure and Certification for dietitians and nutritionists, will provide instructional classes and one-on-one conferences to give patients the tools and support they need to manage their nutritional needs.
“At Lexington Clinic we strive to enhance the experience of every patient who walks through our doors,” said Andrew H. Henderson, M.D., Lexington Clinic CEO. “With the addition of Ms. Borders and her expertise in nutrition, we have one more tool to better serve our patients.”
“One of the best services we can now offer is the ability to teach patients with diabetes how to manage their disease and avoid unnecessary complications later on,” said Ms. Borders. “According to the CDC these complications account for $245 billion in total medical costs and lost work and wages each year. If we can save patients even a fraction of those costs, we are succeeding.”
The program includes medical nutrition therapy for patients who have diabetes, kidney disease or have received a kidney transplant within the last three years. A diabetes self-management program is also offered for patients diagnosed with diabetes. This self-management education will include an initial one-on-one meeting with Ms. Borders, followed by group classes and an additional individual assessment. Patients are now being accepted for both programs on a referral basis only.
