As newcomers to the rowing club at Cambridge University, Jane Batchelor and Kenny Stoltz immersed themselves in the early morning training on the river and club social activities. They found themselves spending a lot of time together, but it was only after friends encouraged Jane that she finally agreed to go on a date with Kenny. They’ve been together since. Jane is a Marketing Manager at Gap, Inc. while Kenny works as a Product Manager for Google. This has meant living abroad and at times, apart.
One afternoon while living in London, the pair met up after work with plans to attend a concert together. They found themselves with time to kill, so they browsed outdoor markets and took a stroll along the Thames. Kenny began walking them away from the concert venue, which Jane found a little odd. Kenny stopped them on the Waterloo Bridge and pulled out a photo album he titled “Our Adventure Book”, a nod to the movie Up. When Jane opened it, she read, “Will You go on an adventure with me?” When she looked up, Kenny was holding out a ring. They enjoyed champagne at the concert to celebrate their engagement.
Kenny was born in Lexington and lived there until he decided to travel and study abroad. He and Jane had visited at least once a year since they met. The couple decided to pick a wedding venue that made the most of Kentucky’s beautiful landscape. Jane felt The Ashley Inn offered the right accommodations for the bridal party, as well as an equestrian center that helped illustrate the importance of horses in Kentucky to Jane’s British family. Since she and her sisters had ridden and owned horses, she loved the idea of including them in the wedding.
Before their wedding ceremony, Jane sent her groom some gifts to mark the occasion. She sent him cufflinks, a pair of monogrammed socks and a rare bourbon tasting set–perfect for a Kentucky wedding!
Jane’s gown featured a stunning mermaid silhouette with lace accents that coordinated beautifully with the romantic touches of the wedding décor. She completed her look with a bridal jewelry suite by Miriam Haskell. The bridesmaids wore soft lavender dresses with layered pearl and leaf necklaces–a gift from Jane–that complemented the bride’s jewelry. Kenny wore a grey suit with a soft blue Duchamp tie and pocket square, picking up on the day’s pastel palette. He also sported a pair of handcrafted bespoke Buday shoes.
The ceremony was held outside, with a beautiful view over rolling hills. The wedding party entered through a pergola decorated with flowers and ferns and walked up an aisle scattered with rose petals. Each row of chairs was decorated with a jar of flowers. The ceremony featured three readings by friends and family members.
For the reception, the couple aimed to recreate an English garden party while incorporating some elements of Kentucky. Buntings, mismatched crockery and sweet flower arrangements provided a sense of romance and whimsy. A rustic screen door was propped up to display the seating chart. Bourbon barrels and an aged, antique door served as a bourbon bar. The guestbook cover featured outlines of Jane and Kenny’s home countries, with their hometowns marked with hearts.
The couple wanted to serve something tasty that would appeal to all their guests. They were living in the UK at the time, where it was hard to get good barbeque, so they turned to J. Render’s for the catering. The wedding cake featured three layers with the bride’s favorite flavors; red velvet, lemon and chocolate sponge. Because the bride loves macarons, the bride’s sister covered the cake with them. A candy bar allowed guests to help themselves to a variety of sweets as a favor from the day. A DJ provided entertainment for the evening. Guests danced, laughed and helped Jane Batchelor and Kenny Stoltz celebrate their new adventure together.
