WINE OF THE MONTH

By Bill Jackey

DFJ Vinhos Paxis Red Blend

This Portuguese wine was inspired by one of the winery founders, Dino Ventura, while watching his children play a British game of bulldog. He heard the children say “paxis” (derived from the Latin word for peace) to give themselves immunity from being caught. As a result, Paxis a a light-bodied, soft and juicy wine.

Rated #5 on Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Best Buys of 2016 Paxis Red Blend is a “dark, structured wine with its balanced blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roritz, is firm with tannins and dense berry fruits. Full in the month, it is a concentrated wine that brings out a strongly chalky texture.” - R.V.
