Lexington, KY – Ashland’s al fresco Ginkgo Tree Café in the Carriage House on the Henry Clay Estate has its grand re-opening on March 15. Open for the season from Tues – Saturday, hours are 9am – 3pm. Visitors can enjoy a breakfast of pastry, tea or coffee, and the ever popular sweet potato country ham biscuit before their tour, or a lunch afterwards of avocado toast, chicken salad, kale & quinoa bowl salad, or the special soup, sandwich or quiche of the day. The emphasis this year will be on fresh fast Grab n’ Go options to handle peak rush hour demand on those brilliant sunny days when a patio and stunning landscape make Ashland a desirable lunch spot. We encourage patrons to make reservations and require it for a party of 6 or more. From Mar. 15 – 17, the first five customers of the day will receive a free coffee!
The Café is also taking advantage of our event space in the Keeper’s Cottage by hosting a monthly High Tea from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Our first Tea in the Cottage is on April 12 celebrating Henry Clay’s Birthday with a traditional Victorian high tea ambiance. We’ll be serving an assortment of teas, scones, biscuits and tea sandwiches. On April 22 we offer a special Alice in Wonderland themed Tea Party. Cost for Adult $25; Children 12 and under $12. Reservations are required.
Our expanded brick patio enables us to offer new events, such as “A Novel Lunch” series. The lunch series is a collaboration of our H. Clay and Co. History Shop and the Café. These lunches in May, July and September feature an author talk, book signing and Q & A. We launch the series with Bob Thompson, author of Hitchhiker, Stories from the Kentucky Homefront, on May 23rd from Noon – 1:30. Cost for members is $20 and non-members is $23 and includes lunch. Reservations are required.
