BEER OF THE MONTH: MAY 2018

Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company Vienna Lager

Why Mark Enjoys this Beer….

I am definitely a lager guy, now don’t get me wrong I enjoy the ales from time to time too, but there is something about the time, effort and extra patience it takes with a lager that helps me appreciate it more. I was excited to hear that Devil’s Backbone Brewing has made its way into Kentucky. I’ve had their beer several times while out on the east coast and really became a fan of their beer. This Vienna Lager holds true to its roots, the beautiful copper color has an amber hue that pours to a thick and foamy off white head. The aroma of fresh bread and toasted malt is full and upfront from the moment the pour begins. The beer is chalk full of toasted malt flavor on the front, a hint of caramel sweetness as it settles and then a slight taste of orange zest just before the beer finishes smooth and clean. Devil’s Backbone may be from Virginia but their Vienna Lager is spot on German style, this beer is off the charts with flavor and is definitely a great session beer that you can enjoy all year long. If you have not had the pleasure, take the time to do so, you will be very glad you did.

Style: Vienna Style Lager

Hops: Northern Brewer & Saaz

Alcohol by volume: 5.2%  | IBU: 18

Taste profile: With its amber chestnut colored good looks and smooth malty finish, Vienna Lager was an obvious choice to put into package. It blends color and flavor without heaviness or bitterness. Just as Vienna Lagers historically inspired Munich’s Oktoberfest beers to evolve, this amber lager has evolved since we opened in 2008 into the award winning beer it is today. Experience the taste and tradition.
