This is an ancient Greek amphora. A talent was approximately the mass of the water required to fill it. A Roman talent was 71 pounds and the common talent spoken of in the New Testament was 130 pounds. Now, how did the disciples know that was exactly (+/- 5 pounds) what I started out wanting to lose?
