Survivor Feature Profiles by Melissa Karrer, Photography by Phillips Mitchell
In salute of Breast Cancer Awareness Month TOPS is proud to share the stories of 23 survivors.
Meet Sharon Hall.
Symptoms of mastitis in her right breast prompted Sharon, age 35 at the time, to have further testing. The phone call she received a few days later informing her that she had breast cancer was life changing. She heard the word cancer, but all she could feel was disbelief, confusion and sadness.
Since her double mastectomy, she has started the reconstruction process but continues to experience numbness and some discomfort. This serves as a constant reminder and makes it difficult for her to forget about the cancer.
While she is still dealing with symptoms from surgery, Sharon has an amazing support system in her husband, Jason, and daughter, Gabriella (9). Her parents Connie & Danny and sister Karen cared for her and helped with her daughter during her recovery time. Her church family made an impact by ensuring that meals were delivered.
Sharon credits her strength through her daughter
Gabriella and her close knit family who has dedicated all their time and efforts to her healing process. They are a very close, strong, and loving family.
Sharon has encouragement for those who may be
beginning their breast cancer journey. She says, “Not only do we need others while fighting this battle ourselves, but we also need others’ help after the battle is complete.” She advises others, “Breathe and keep your head on straight. God is with you every step of the way.”
