When on the hunt for the perfect unique gift or item for yourself or a friend, few stores in Lexington come to mind quite like Artique. If you have been lucky enough to visit one of their locations, then you know what visual splendor greets you as soon as you open the door. It is like a wonderland of arts, gifts, and the friendliest of customer service. The Artique team believes uniqueness is something worth celebrating, and that every person has the ability to express their creative side. The shops are a whimsical celebration of creativity, valuing authenticity, and significance. Beyond ordinary, beyond special, and certainly beyond mass production. Artique is a great reminder why we love shopping local.
It all began in 1980 when Michael Stutland and Kathryn Qualls decided to tie the knot in a sandy beach in Belize. Kathryn is an artist. From her colorful Batik silk paintings to her seamstress days, Kathryn leaves a trail of artistic gems in her wake. Michael is a competitor. From his athletic days competing in track and field to learning to master photography, Michael has an intense desire to succeed. He saw the light in people's eyes when they spoke about their most prized possession. She created things people loved. So, together, they joined their passions and began Artique. From its hum Artique Lexington Green Storefront began only selling Kathryn's artwork, Artique now represents over 1000 modern American artists. The local community of Lexington, Kentucky has trusted Artique for over 37 years for their meaningful gifts for all of life’s significant events.
Artique has won numerous nationally recognized awards like the NICHE Magazine Top Retailer of the Year Nationally, the JCK Top 50 Designer Retailer Award, and the Kentucky Governor's Award for the Arts. For a locally owned mom and pop shop, these awards are a testament to reliable passion and dedication Michael and Kathryn have shown to the arts.
Their collection is ever changing-- from jewelry to metal, glass to wood. From sheerly elegant to purely functional; but never boring. One hundred percent of our products are handcrafted, meaning no two are exactly the same. That’s not the case with factory made.
Created from inspiration, every piece has a story. Artists from around America have built their lives around the artistic process. Inner visions are crafted into artful reality. Every work of art is a testament to someone's creative dream.
When perusing Artique, rest assured you’re looking at the work of some of America’s most talented artists; crafted from their hearts and hands to yours.
