THE OSCARS | There is no award show more anticipated than the Academy Awards. Every fall we head out to theaters to see films that with any luck will be honored and acknowledged come February. This year’s nominee list is full of powerful and heartfelt performances. From Eddie Redmayne as genius physicist Stephen Hawking and his life long battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease to Julianne Moore’s portrayal of a 50 year old college professor struck by early on-set Alzheimer’s Disease.
Even though the show is all about the tremendous work of the film industry, we are just as excited about the red carpet. Fashion and the Oscars have always gone hand in hand. Some of the most memorable gowns in history floated down the Academy carpet and we are certain this year will be no different. While we will miss Ellen and her record breaking selfie skills this year, ‘Gone Girl’ star Neil Patrick Harris is taking over hosting duties on February 22nd on ABC. With his talent and charm we are no doubt in for an entertaining 3 hours.
THE GRAMMYS | 2014 was a year of being “Drunk In Love” and “All About That Bass” and that’s just what this year’s Grammy Awards are honoring. The ladies dominated the charts with hit after hit with the likes of Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea, and the queen herself, Beyonce, scoring multiple nominations. But the gents didn’t too badly either. Sam Smith, Pharrell, and Ed Sheeran all had an amazing year due to their respective hits. Come show time, you can plan on Taylor showing us how to “Shake It Off” and John Legend dreamily crooning from a piano. Not to mention, there will be by far some of the most interesting red carpet looks of the year. Will anyone ever be able to top Lady Gaga in her infamous egg? Tune in on February 8th on CBS at 8 PM to see for yourself.
FASHION WEEK | Every February and September, fashion designers are scurrying about putting together their ready to wear collections. New York, London, and Milan will all show their Fall 2015 best starting on the 12th, with the undeniably chic Paris following shortly after in March. This will mark the first season in New York that Peter Copping will show his efforts as creative director for the late and unforgettable Oscar de la Renta. Copping left the elegant house of Nina Ricci last fall and has some very big shoes to fill. As for the runway, you can plan on seeing even more of model it-girls like Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Kendall Jenner strutting their stuff. We are mostly looking forward to what trends will be all the rage for Fall. Will it be bold colors? Fringe? Capes? Check out our fashion week coverage online throughout February to find out.
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY MOVIE RELEASE | On February 13th you are formally invited to get lost in the seductive world of the one and only Christian Grey. The bestselling trilogy by E.L. James hits the big screen and is easily one of the most anticipated films of 2015. Starring are U.K. born Jamie Dornan and the up and coming, fresh faced Dakota Johnson (daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffin). The story follows the dark, mysterious, and very successful Christian Grey and the curious, and for lack of a better word, ordinary Anastasia Steele, on a steamy whirlwind romance, filled with lots of twists and turns. If the trailer, swooning with the sultry vocals of Beyonce and filled with the lust filled looks of its main characters are any indication, you may need a cold shower after this one. While the books have their fair share of haters, there is no question the sexy story has ignited a phenomenon and is sure to fill seats come Valentines Day.
