FAYETTE COUNTY AWARDS GRANT FOR WOMEN2WOMEN PROGRAMMING

LEXINGTON, KY - Dress for Success Lexington, a local non-profit dedicated to empowering women to achieve economic independence, has been approved as one of ten funded local non-profit agencies to receive an economic development grant from the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council for FY2018 for the purpose of providing economic and workforce development services.
The grant, which will fund Dress for Success Lexington’s newly established Women2Women mentoring program, will enable the women served by the program to receive individual mentors who will work closely with each participant to help ensure their success in both finding and maintaining employment.  Enrollment for the program will be begin July 1, 2018 and be ongoing for FY2018.
“Anyone who has ever had a mentor or been a mentor knows how powerful the relationship can be. Each Women2Women client has the support of a professional woman who wants to share her insights and experiences to help another woman succeed. We are focusing on the skills that are outside those listed in a job description, the soft skills that can make all the difference in finding and keeping a job,” said Deborah Slaton, one of the new program’s coordinators.
“Economists tell us that Lexington’s very low unemployment rate is at or near ‘full employment’. But we know that there are hundreds of women in our community who want to work but aren’t being hired. Women2Women is a message to those women that they don’t have to be alone in their search for a job. Mentors are ready to help them get interviews and land a job, and will be there to help the client meet work-related challenges and learn the soft skills that can make all the difference in being successful in the workplace.”
For those interested in finding out more about the program, as a mentor or client, a Lunch and Learn workshop will be offered on Thursday, June 28th, from 11:30am – 12:30 pm, with lunch provided by Park Community Credit Union. The event will take place in the Dress for Success Lexington Career Center located at 1165 Centre Parkway, Suite 100 in Lexington.  There will also be a Mentor training and information session offered on July 10th from 6:00-8:00pm.  Contact Deborah Slaton at [email protected] or by calling 859-231-7848 for additional information or to RSVP.
