Anna Grace Downs, the 26-year-old medical student who had been treated at Baptist Health Lexington since March 17 for COVID-19, was released today.

“Thank you to all the doctors and nurses for their exceptional care during this scary and vulnerable time. I couldn’t be more pleased with the care I received at Baptist Health Lexington,” said Downs.

She first started feeling ill on March 15 while at school in Louisville, but tested negative for the virus. Her father brought her back to Lexington. On March 17 she was taken to the Emergency Department and admitted to Baptist Health Lexington where she tested positive for the virus. Downs said that she didn’t know how she was exposed to COVID-19.

On March 20, while she was in ICU at the hospital, Downs found out that she had been matched for a residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Ohio State University Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Downs asked for patience from everyone who has been asked to stay home to stop the spread of the disease. “I know it’s hard but keep making the sacrifices to stay home and protect your loved ones and healthcare workers,” she said.

Downs is a graduate of Lexington Christian Academy and is in her fourth year at the University of Louisville School of Medicine.
