WOW WEDDING: EMILY & DAVID HARRISON

What a storybook romance! Emily and David Harrison met through mutual friends their senior year at Georgetown College and it was love at first sight. Their personalities clicked, as they shared many common interests: nature, two terms of studying abroad, and a passion for old books. From that very first moment, they knew they were meant to be together, and dated through college and beyond.
Upon graduation, David and Emily decided to explore the romance of love and language with a trip to Spain, where they took a month-long CELTA course in Madrid to teach English as a second language. On a break, the two took a trip to the ancient city of Granada, which they had visited together in the past. They explored Carmen de los Mártires, “complete with peacocks and awesome views”, when David gifted Emily with a book from the 1800s. It was from a collection from the illustrated version of Les Miserables and Emily loved it. She was already swooning at the romance of the old book when David went on to give her a handmade leather journal she’d admired earlier in the night. “I thought we could write our own story in here,” David said, and got down on one knee to propose.
The wedding took place on September 26, 2015 between David’s hometown of Whitesville, KY, and Emily’s hometown in Ashland, at the aptly named A Storybook Inn in Versailles. From start to finish, the event was full of personalized details unique to the couple. For example, when David invited his friends to be groomsmen, he presented each of them with a superhero shirt that fit their personality, as well as a personalized pocket watch to wear during the wedding. The wedding invitations included old-school library cards for RSVPs, and the wedding favors were a choice between the bride and groom’s favorite books: The Great Gatsby and The Count of Monte Cristo. Even the table names at the reception were based on favorite books.
The music was very important to the couple and the Highland Chamber Players out of Louisville did a perfect job of mixing their interest in both the eclectic and class, such as Lord of the Rings and Canon in D. When Emily walked down the aisle, it was to a beautiful rendition of “All I Ask of You” from The Phantom
of the Opera, a musical she and David love. Of course, they couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that she tripped during her walk, the very moment David started tearing up.
During the ceremony, the couple sealed love letters to be opened at a later date with wax, a romantic gesture for a romantic couple.
The reception was a warm and fun time with family and friends, delicious food, and lively celebration.
When asked to offer advice to share with other couples planning a wedding, the bride and groom noted, “Enjoy the moment, the day will fly by! Stamp your wedding with your personalities, as it will mean that much more to you and your guests.”
